Winter needn't be all snow and ice...

 

Sweaters and socks in the early morning are shed before lunch so one can enjoy the sunny zocalo (main square) Oaxaca is a popular winter destination for snowbirds, but you're welcome to join us even if you live in a warm climate year-round! We'll visit all of Open Heart Tours' favorite spots: beautiful local architecture, working artisan studios and memorable restaurants. The Foodways & Feasting tour includes special-topic visits with organic farms and community members involved with Oaxacan sustainability efforts.

 

Tour Cost: Varies with you itinerary. Generally between $3000 and $3800

Additional Information

  • All tours are small, from 4-12 people

  • $500 non-refundable deposit holds your spot

  • Deposit & Letter of Agreement form must accompany deposit. Form will be sent to you via email after initial inquiry.

  • Remaining balance due 60 days before departure date, along with proof of international health coverage.

  • We accept personal checks as payment

 Sample Itinerary

​

Day 1: Arrive to Oaxaca. 

​

Day 2: Tour of El Centro plazas, visit to Our Lady of the Assumption; Templo de San Felipe Neri, comida corrida (typical Oaxacan luncheon); visit to  Mujeres Artesesanas de las Regiones de Oaxaca Women's Cooperative

Day 3: Visit to Coyotepec for black pottery (barro negro); meet Josefina Aguilar & daughters, ceramicists of Ocotlan, enjoy a free afternoon.

Day 4: Visit the most colorful village market (tianguis) in Tlacolula, tour Iglesia Señor del Tlacolula; lunch at a local restaurant; Yagul &/or Mitla archaeological site tour

​

Day 5:  Option to hike in the forested mountains of the Pueblos Mancomunados to experience Zapotec village life OR have a workshop (cochineal dyeing, weaving, cooking 7 moles, you decide!)

           

Day 6: Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca tour (optional); visit at Santa Domingo Museo & Church (treasures from Monte Alban Tomb 7,  Early Spanish library holdings, rotating exhibits, frescos & Oaxacan history). Choose any or all of the other museums for a leisurely town day.

Day 7: Tour Monte Alban, the most significant archaeological site in Oaxaca, with a local history professor as guide; lunch in the countryside

​

Day 8: PICK YOU PLEASURE DAY --- Every group can choose an adventure!

Day 9: Return home
