¡Guelaguetza plus Cooking Classes!

Escape the Heat at 5,000 ft!

July 23 - July 31, 2020

8 days of Eating, Cooking, Touring, Revelling

$2200 (does not include airfare. Please see DETAILS below.)

Our ¡Guelaguetza! Tour lets you enjoy the cool mountain air while experiencing an extraordinary, once-a-year cultural event. The Guelaguetza is an annual 9 day festival in which all seven major indigenous communities, and many more small groups, come to the city to present traditional dancing, costumes, parades, walking bands, native food, and artisanal crafts. It is the most famous indigenous gathering of its kind in Mexico.

Our group will arrive for the last days of the Guelaguetza festivities, while we seriously attend to eating all Oaxaca has to offer.  The first of two cooking classes will be held in a village woman's home where the secrets of mole and drinking chocolate will be revealed; and the second class will be taught by a popular city chef in his restaurant.  In between, the group will see all the major sites, and many hidden and lesser known delights.  Day and night, the streets, restaurants and other public venues will be filled with a feast for your eyes, your heart, and your dancing feet.
