Two special focus tours make Oaxaca the place to be in Winter 2020. The Jan. 23rd - 31st is Foodways & Feasting!, supporting farmers markets there and in your hometown ($2400). Feb. 2nd - 10th has us steeped in textile lore with a big dose of romance to tip our hats to Valetine's Day!

Sweaters and socks in the early morn are shed before lunch, so one can enjoy the sunny zocalo. Oaxaca is a popular winter destination for snowbirds, but you're welcome to come even if you're from Florida! Read on for a sample of the delights that await.....
EXAMPLE ITINERARY --- Sequence may change as needed.
Day 1: Arrive to Oaxaca. American & United have the only flights direct from the US to Oaxaca.
Day 2: Tour of El Centro plazas
Visit to Our Lady of the Assumption, Templo de San Felipe Neri
Comida corrida (typical Oaxacan luncheon)
Mujeres Artesesanas de las Regiones de Oaxaca Women's Cooperative
Day 3: Visit to Coyotepec for black pottery (barro negro)
Meet Josefina Aguilar & daughters, ceramicists of Ocotlan
Day 4: Visit the most colorful village market (tianguis) in Tlacolula
Tour of Iglesia Señor del Tlacolula
Lunch at a local restaurant
Yagul &/or Mitla archaeological site tour
Day 5: Option to hike in the forested mountains of the Pueblos Mancomunados to experience eco-tourism & Zapotec village life; OR have a workshop (cochineal dyeing, weaving, cooking 7 moles, you decide!)
Day 6: Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca tour (optional)
Santa Domingo Museo & Church (treasures from Monte Alban Tomb 7, Early Spanish library holdings, rotating exhibits, frescos & Oaxacan history);
Choose any or all of the other museums for a leisurely town day.
Day 7: Tour Monte Alban, the most significant archaeological site in Oaxaca, with a local history professor as guide; Lunch in the countryside
Day 8: PICK YOU PLEASURE DAY --- Every group can choose an adventure!
Day 9: Return home
FOODWAYS & FEASTING is a special offering from Open Heat Tours where part of each tour fee will be donated to the farmers market you designate. This tour will include special visits with the Non-GMO Movement; small organic farms, and sustainability efforts.
